Description
The University of Kentucky proposes to host the four-day Fulbright global Health Innovations Seminar for 100 Fulbright Masters and Ph.D. students. The February 25-March 1, 2015 seminar will feature faculty members from UKY's colleges of Public Health, Medicine and Communication and Information, staff from the UKY International Center, and local healthcare providers. The seminar will include sessions on the history and future of public health; panel discussions on global health issues including health information technology implementation, "slum tourism" and global health, and practitioner concerns; skill-building workshops on participatory communication, leadership, and management; and discussions of harm reduction and service to marginalized populations. In addition, participants will visit one of four local health clinics in Lexington that serve disadvantaged groups as well as visiting the Rural Health Center in Hazard, Ky. The seminar's culminating idea generating session will focus on developing strategies to address some of the controversies surrounding the Ebola response. Participants will also have the opportunity to visit one of four cultural sites in the Lexington area.
