Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer Bonded Repair of I-65 Bridges in Louisville--Federal Aid Research Task 126

Detalles del proyecto

Description

Severe cracks exist at the ends of the prestressed concrete I-girders on the I-65 Bridges over Jacob, Broadway, Chestnut, and Gray Streets in Louisville (Jefferson County). The cracks have widened since they were first identified. Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) fabric will be used to strengthen/repair the cracks in the girders and the pedestals on the pier caps. CFRP fabric will also be used to retrofit a bridge pier near Gray Street. Application of the CFRP fabric will provide additional load carrying capacity that is evidently needed in view of the continued growth of the cracks. These bridges are located on a major interstate, and replacement is not an option at this time. Consequently, repair and strengthening is the only option.
