Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer Bonded Repair of I-65 Bridges in Louisville--Federal Aid Research Task No. 126

Detalles del proyecto

Description

Problem Statement Severe cracks exist at the ends of the prestressed concrete I-girders on the 1-65 Bridges over Jacob, Broadway, and Gray Street in Louisville (Jefferson County). The cracks have widened since they were first identified. Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) fabric will be used to strengthen/repair the cracks in the girders. Application ofthe CFRP fabric will provide additional load carrying capacity that is evidently needed in view ofthe continued growth ofthe cracks. These bridges are located on a major interstate, and replacement is not an option at this time. Consequently, repair and strengthening is the only option. III. Objectives The objectives of this research are: (1) Evaluate, design, and retrofit the prestressed concrete I-girders on the 1-65 Bridges over Jacob, Broadway, and Gray Street in Louisville (Jefferson County). (2) Monitor and evaluate the performance of the retrofit for three years.
