Detalles del proyecto

Description

This is a REU supplement request for an existing CAREER Award (Integrated Approach to Superplastic Forming of Advanced Materials, PI: Marwan Khraisheh, University of Kentucky). Funding is requested to support two (2) undergraduate students during Spring and Summer 2007 semesters. Two students have expressed their interest in the REV program. Both students will work on research projects related to superplastic forming of lightweight alloys. One of the students, Dominique Rowe (an African American female student) will work on a project for the Explorium of Lexington (a children's museum) to design and build displays that inform and promote the use of lightweight alloys and their positive impact on the environment. Dominique is an active student in the college with a GPA of 3.52. The other student, Rameen Hadizadeh, will work on introducing a non-contact sensor for the existing superplastic forming setup to monitor the height of the deformed sheet inside the die. Rameen has a GPA of 3.75 and has completed his Co-Op rotation at Sandia National Lab where he worked on microsensors. Both students will work closely with several graduate students and will be encouraged to join the graduate school. In addition, both students will be asked to share their experience with other undergraduate students through different student organizations to encourage their participation in various research projects.
