Description
This project benefits all persons who live, work or play in environments with trees. When forest
insect and disease pests are found early federal and state cooperators are often able to eradicate or
reduce the spread of these threats within our natural and managed environments. Early detection and
reporting of forest pests helps to secure the livelihoods and quality of life of those who depend on our
nationfs forest resources including the nursery industry, forest product industry and other specialty crop
areas including maple syrup production. This suggestion employs a number of strategies that reach far
and wide and will include outreach to minorities and underserved communities, particularly in urban
areas that are determined to be high]risk pathways for the entry of invasive pests and pathogens, in
efforts to increase public understanding and awareness of the need to look for and report forest pests of
federal and/or state regulatory concern.
