Independent Living Service Program

Scope of Work: Within the Commonwealth of Kentucky the prevalence of functional blindness, meaning an inability to read standard newsprint for individuals, even with corrective measures is 30% higher than that of the nation as a whole. The national rate is 1% of the total population and the Kentucky rate is 1.29% of the state population. In order to more efficiently and effectively serve the population in Western Kentucky, The Department for the Blind will investigatea newservicedelivery system, and realign service areas. The Department for the Blind will enter into an agreement with the University of Kentucky Research Foundation ~o explore the needfor an expansion of the independent living services program into Western Kentucky.
