Description
The Laboratory of Toxicology and Toxicokinetics, BRL ,CCR, NCI has an ongoing collaboration with the CDC for the Anniston Community Health Survey: Follow-up Study and Dioxin Analyses.
The study participants will provide blood samples, some of which had valid PCB and lipid results. The analysis of these samples requires intense scientific analytics and data processing, currently not available within the in-house laboratory setting. The study is to measure the level of glucose and glycated helmoglobin in participants.
Glucose level is the single most useful assay in screening diabetes. Glycemic antibodies are most useful in predicting which persons may develop diabetes in later age. Lipids, including total and free cholesterol, triglycerides, low and high denisty cholesterols are essential lipids necessary for evaluation of organochlorine contaminants which are lipophilic and are stored in adipose tissue of every human being. The work involves measurements of chemical pollutants called perfluorinated substances in samples from the Anniston Community Health Survey.
