Detalles del proyecto

Description

The rise and spread of infectious diseases present significant challenges for the livestock and equine industries, leading not only to decreased productivity but also to substantial economic losses. Recent incidents involving animal disease transmission at fairs, horse shows and other off farm events underscores the urgent need for biosecurity education, training and programmatic implementation to mitigate and control the transmission of infectious diseases. The overall goal of this program is to create, implement and asceses a comprehensive audience specific curriculum to educate about and enhance use of biosecurity practices among horse, poultry, and livestock producers, at off farm events including but not limited to fairs and shows. The program will target three audiences to maximize education, information dissemination and use: veterinarians, extension agents and youth. Objectives include: 1) development of a comprehensive audience specific biosecurity curriculum, that incorporates a risk assessment toolkit, best practices handbooks, and training guides to prevent and mitigate biosecurity threats, at off-farm events (i.e., fairs, shows etc.), 2) implementation of the program by providing tailored biosecurity training to veterinarians, Extension educators, and other agricultural leaders and youth participants, focusing on preventing disease transmission at off-farm shows, fairs, and other events and 3) assessment of the audience specific curriculum. The project will develop modular in-person, online and app based curricula and tool, with continued assessment and refinement. In person or virtual synchronous participation and implementation will be geared towards veterinarians and extention educators as a train the trainer modules (expected in person participation = 300 total) and web based and APP deliveray of curriculum will be targeted towards youth fair and show participants. The multimodal, audience specific approach allows increases trainer edcuation education, provides trainers with a comprehnesive curriculum and tool kit and ulti, mately enhances youth biosecurity education and protocal use decreaing and mitigating biosecurity issues at off-farm events.
