Mexican Immigrant Parents Attitudes About School Involvement

Detalles del proyecto

Description

.Overview ofstudy: The proposed study will involve interviewing low-income Mexican immigrant parents ofelementary school-aged children in Fayette County School District about their involvement in the academic lives oftheir children. Specifically, the interview will address parents' attitudes about their own education, including reasons they themselves left school. It will also involve questions about parents' attitudes about their children's education, including how involved they consider themselves to be, how they show their children the value of school, what their academic expectations for their children are, and what they consider to be the role of schools. Questions will also assess parents' sense ofagency and their perceived barriers to greater parental involvement in schools. The interview questions will yield both qualitative and quantitative data, and the questions will be based on previously used measures and items created specifically for this study.
