NIAID Centers of Excellence for Influenza Research and Response (CEIRR): HPAI H5N1 Surveillance in Agricultural Animals (Ruminants and Equines) and Agricultural Workers at Kentucky

The work proposed in this concept proposal aligns well with the mission of the CEIRR especially in two areas: Emerging Pathogen Surveillance and Human-animal interface. Since Kentucky has two large livestock industries (equine and cattle), it will offer a unique perspective in addressing the spread and severity of HPAI H5N1 at the interface between equines-humans-ruminants.
