OHS, Using Equivalent Rear-End Crashes to Prioritize Intersections Improvements

Detalles del proyecto

Description

Abstract Using Equivalent Rear-End Crashes to Prioritize Intersections Improvements PI: Eric Green 10/1/2025 - 9/30/2026 Analysis will be performed on Kentucky’s intersection crashes to identify the weights to apply to crash types and speeds using existing data. The advantage that ERC has over EPDO is that existing crash data can be used to predict the outcome of future crashes without a severe crash having occurred. That is, a high-speed angle crash that resulted in a C crash may still be weighted higher than other C (or even B) crashes due to the likelihood of a KA occurring. This changes the ERC into a proactive rather than reactive approach. Intersections statewide (including local roads) can be prioritized by ERC to identify the most (likely) severe intersections. To prioritize intersection crashes using ERC. The ERC counts will be integrated with AADT counts and estimates to develop SPFs for all public roads.
