Project Title: Regenerating America’s Working Landscapes to Enhance Natural Resources and Public Goods through Perennial Groundcover (PGC) Project period: 01/01/2022-12/31/2026 Submitted to NIFA Sustainable Agricultural Systems program, Coordinated Agriculture Project Subaward through Iowa State University Perennial ground covers can contribute many of the benefits to agroecosystems, including weed suppression, improving soil health, and reducing soil erosion, while eliminating the need to reseed every fall. The goal of this project is to accelerate development and adoption of perennial groundcover (PGC) systems across multiple crop adaptation zones. Objectives include evaluating the establishment and growth of PGC species and cultivars, optimizing corn planting and management for use in PGC systems, and evaluating pest dynamics.
