Description
This grant will fund the first-year of a joint project studying how bat populations and their insect prey respond to the arrival of White-nose Syndrome at Mammoth Cave National Park. The University of Kentucky, Mammoth Cave International Center for Science and Learning, and National Park Service (NPS) will be the primary partners working on this project. This project will also help Mammoth Cave National Park's visitors learn about:
1) bats and their role in the ecosystem,
2) the recent catastrophic decline of bat populations due to White-nose Syndrome,
3) how bats and insects interact in the environment, and
4) current bat-related research.
