RSF 68: CV Parking Monitoring System and Parking Space Counting

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) has currently implemented 14 Kentucky Automated Truck Screening (KATS) systems with two more planned for deployment this year. Although KATS equipment is highly effective in identifying trucks that are good candidates for inspection, commercial vehicles do not always obey the signage to park or come inside to meet with enforcement personnel before leaving the facility. Some drivers choose to catch up their logbooks or dispose of illegal substances before meeting with enforcement personnel. The parking monitoring systems provide enforcement personnel the ability to follow commercial motor vehicles down the ramp all the way to the parking lot to ensure that they actually pull into the parking lot instead of continuing down the ramp and back to the highway. A second benefit of these systems is to notify the commercial motor vehicle (CMV) driver of available parking spots when the inspection station is closed. This project will provide real-time information to CMV drivers, improving safety and efficiency There are two goals for this project.
