  • Pigman, Jerry (PI)

Detalles del proyecto

Description

The objective of this research study will be to assess the magnitude of problems related to commercial truck parking and evaluate alternatives to improve safety and accommodate parking demands for commercial vehicles. The overall magnitude of the safety and operational problems related to commercial truck parking will be determined. Alternatives to improve safety will be identified and an assessment will be made of options to accommodate the demand for parking commercial trucks. Consistent with MAP-21 legislation, assessments will be made of the level of commercial freight traffic and the adequacy of truck parking. In addition, a review of practices used in other states will be made and those practices with potential for implementation in Kentucky will be identified. Recommendations will be made to improve safety and implement practices to accommodate the demand for commercial truck parking. It is anticipated that safety practices and/or countermeasures will be identified to reduce crashes and improve other problems/issues related to parking of commercial vehicles on highway shoulders.
