SPR 2013 Prime KTC: Weigh Station Perform/Tech

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) maintains the weigh station facilities, and the Department of Vehicle Regulation (DVR) administers many of the state regulations related to commercial vehicles. The KSP Division of Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (CVE) monitors commercial vehicle traffic and enforces state and federal laws and regulations related to commercial vehicles. The KSP-CVE not only patrol Kentucky’s roadways, but they also man Kentucky’s 14 weigh stations. The KSP-CVE and DVR and both interested in maximizing their efficiency at the weigh stations. This project will help to identify current operations, best practices, and future plans for Kentucky’s weigh stations. The objectives of this project will include: • Developing a thorough understanding of the current operations at Kentucky weigh stations; • Identifying best practices for weigh stations in Kentucky; • Designing guidelines for weigh station evaluation in Kentucky; and • Planning to optimize the operations at Kentucky weigh stations.
