SPR 27-711: Updating KYTC’s Prestressed Concrete Plant Inspection Manual

Portions of KYTC’s Prestressed Concrete Manual no longer align with industry standards, updated AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, current construction practices, material technologies, and advancements in quality assurance procedures. Inconsistencies between the manual and policies, standard drawings, and specification updates have also resulted in designers, producers, inspectors, and contractors interpreting the manual differently and applying requirements inconsistently. As such, the Cabinet needs a revised manual that has updated design criteria, inspection protocols, durability considerations, fabrication tolerances, and construction best practices. It must also eliminate outdated provisions and conflicting guidance and improve usability through better organization, revised details, and clearer technical language.
