Sustainable Aviation Fuel Production via Decarboxylation/Decarbonylation of Low-Cost and Geographically Distributed Oleaginous Feedstock

Description

The reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and the diversion of low quality waste oils away from sewer systems and landfills represent two problems that can assuaged through novel technology for the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Indeed, the oil fraction of a) algae cultivated using greenhouse gases produced from the combustion of fossil fuels; and/or of b) the millions of tons of brown grease currently landfilled, can be upgraded to SAF by further developing catalysts capable of converting these feeds to renewable diesel. In this project, the catalytic technology needed to convert waste and/or low-cost oleaginous feedstock to SAF via decarboxylation/decarbonylation/isomerization/cyclization will be developed.
