Description
Current material response codes are limited and do not have the capability of
capturing all physical phenomena found within a charring ablator. One such phenomena,
thermocouple hump, is present in a multitude of experimental data and has hindered the
reconstruction of the surface temperature for Exploration Flight Test 1. Water content
within the TPS has been hypothesized as the main contributor to this phenomena. The
provided proposal will set forth a detailed framework in which a high fidelity multiphase
H2O model within the ablation material can be built upon.
