Description

The 2012 Traffic Record Assessment report made a major recommendation that the Statewide Injury Surveillance System “[i]ncrease the number of hospitals reporting to the trauma registry." (Section 2-F) Kentucky has made great progress over the past 3 years in the quantity and quality of its data on traumatic injuries that occur across the entire state's highway transportation system. From a baseline of 4 reporting hospitals in 2009, we now have 16 facilities providing data to the Kentucky Trauma Registry. Funding is requested to address three needs: (1) Detailed expert analysis of Trauma Registry data and linkage with highway trauma-related data from other sources to improve the evidence base for effective action; (2) Modest financial support for rural facilities that seek Level III or IV status within the state's trauma system to allow them to connect with the online reporting network; and (3) Support for the addition of 15 data elements to the reporting system in order to produce more actionable analyses.
