Description

Additional Phase I Archaeological Survey, Trigg County: US 68/KY 80 (State Item No. 1-180.51) This proposal has been prepared in response to a request from staff of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) for a proposal and cost estimate for conducting additional Phase I archaeological survey of a new construction easement and right-of-way that will be impacted by construction of the Canton to Cadiz Bypass along US 68IKY 80 in Trigg County, Kentucky. The new construction area will be used for a drainage corridor and detention basin adjacent to the new bypass alignment, which runs north of the current location of US 681KY80. The work that will be conducted is intended to provide an inventory of the cultural resources within the project area and to provide an evaluation of the research potential for the archaeological deposits encountered within the new construction area. The new construction area falls within the boundaries of archaeological site 15TRI. a previously reported Mississippian age mound center and associated village, This site has been determined to be eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP), and previous work has demonstrated that the site contains distinct artifact concentrations and probable remnants of features or domestic houses below surface.
