Description
The purpose of this project from the University of Kentucky Center on Drug and Alcohol Research (CDAR) is to collaborate with UNITE to conduct evaluations for two new treatment programs in the target region. These programs are targeted for implementation in Pike and Clay counties in late 2005 and 2006 and will target individuals with substance abuse problems in eastern and southeastern Kentucky. CDAR proposed to conduct the evaluation, and the approach can be described as a pre/post test design with baseline measures collected during treatment assessment and follow-up measures at 12 months. The evaluation will target the type of services utilized, exposure to treatment services, and treatment outcomes (decreased drug use, decreased alcohol use, decreased criminal justice involvement, improved family/social functioning, improved employment/school involvement, fewer mental health issues, and fewer medical problems). The overall working hypothesis is that the amount (intensity) and length (duration) of treatment and the comprehensive network of UNITE referral sources will be related to positive treatment outcomes.
