Description
University of Kentucky: Connecting and Networking for Suicide Prevention (UK-CAN) will create a
new network at the University of Kentucky to decrease suicide attempts and deaths, increase help-
seeking and decrease stigma around mental health on campus. This innovative project brings
together expertise from across campus and is led by a team with substantial national experience in
suicide prevention.
UK-Can is a new initiative aims to reduce suicides by 1. Increasing network infrastructure; 2.
Increase training to respond effectively to students with mental and substance use disorders; 3.
Increase voluntary screening and assessment; 4. Providing outreach services to inform college
students about available services; 4. Promote linkage to hotlines and 5. Train campus and
community clinicians in evidence-based practices.
