N2 - 3-p-Tolyl-3-trifluoromethyldiazirine was studied by laser flash photolysis (LFP) to obtain the absolute kinetics of p-tolyl(trifluoromethyl)carbene 1. The absolute rate constants for the reactions of 1 with pyridine, ketones and quenchers of biological interest were obtained. The implications of the data for photoaffinity labeling experiments are discussed.
