Resumen

Individuals with dementia require person-centered care. Healthcare education aims to prepare future professionals to implement person-centered care. Simulation-based training as a component of Experiential Learning Theory promotes realistic learning opportunities revealing increased knowledge, comfort, and confidence for students. This study used goals and reflective essays to evaluate application and perceptions of graduate students after an in-person dementia simulation experience. Findings revealed increased understanding of dementia, intent to provide holistic, interprofessional care which all characterize person-centered care and therapeutic empathy. Future research may involve the transfer of simulation-based learning to clinical practice in implementation of person-centered care.
