Resumen
Polyethylene glycols are versatile species that can be used in a variety of applications. They have predictable cation binding properties and they are useful in phase transfer processes. Attempts to prepare polyethylene glycol substituted anthraquinones led to the observation that PEGs are excellent nucleophiles and catalysts for aromatic substitution. We have used the compounds prepared by this catalytic method and the Fast Atom Bombardment method (FAB/MS) to assess alkylammonium cation binding by various PEGs.
