Resumen

The combination of froth flotation and hydraulic classification can facilitate the production of a high-quality pozzolan that meets or exceeds ASTM specifications. This combination has been rigorously evaluated and results of pilot-scale testing are presented. Pilot-scale testing was conducted on fly ash from two active electric utility storage ponds. The tests demonstrated that a high-quality and consistent pozzolan could be produced using Advanced Pozzolan Technologies' Fast Float™ Process. Along with the pozzolan, the additional production of aggregate for masonry mortar and the production of a low sulfur, medium-Btu fuel were also demonstrated. The Fast Float™ Process incorporates several simple unit processes to ensure pozzolan consistency. Classification controls the particle size distribution, which is critical for achieving early strength; flotation controls the grade with respect to L.O.I.; and dewatering controls the moisture content.
