Resumen
The concluding chapter revisits the definition of inoculation and the metaphor that guides its theoretical understanding and development. It discusses its conceptual evolution over six decades of research and application culminating with the introduction of therapeutic inoculations. It then proceeds to discuss and offer future directions on inoculation theory research, methods, designs, and practice. From theoretical perspective, it draws attention to the important topics of postinoculation talk and related concepts; umbrella and cross-protection; inoculation modality, length, and form; and new vaccines and ways to inoculate. With respect to methods and designs, it discusses the relevance of experimental and nonexperimental study approaches; dynamic vs. static study of inoculation processes; and the role of artificial intelligence in message design and testing. Before presenting its conclusion, the chapter offers examples of new areas and contexts for strategic implementation of inoculation-based strategies such as generative artificial intelligence, improving college students’ experiences, and supporting better teaching and research.
