Resumen

This paper provides a commentary on the review by Lflienfeld, Waldman, and Israel in this issue concerning the use of the term and concept of comorbidtty in the personality disorder literature. We suggest that there are three aspects to their review. One is a presentation of the problem of the fallible relationship between diagnoses and the disorders they purportedly assess. The second is the awareness of this problem within the personality disorder literature. The third is their recommendation for how to address the apparent misuse of the term within the literature. We agree with their discussion regarding the first point, but not with their characterization of the literature nor with their proposal to desist from using the term.
