Dynamic testing and monitoring of long Span bridges

Producción científica: Conference contributionrevisión exhaustiva

Resumen

The development of site specific time histories, response spectra, and seismic acceleration maps for the 120 counties in the state of Kentucky are addressed in this report. Seismic input data was chosen as the basis for the evaluation of these bridges. Using this data, retrofitting schemes may be recommended for any bridge that requires such action. The objectives of this study are to assess the load bearing capacity of bridges within Kentucky, evaluate the seismic behavior of these bridges, and to construct a baseline finite element analytical model of a specific bridge. This study was divided into three major tasks for selected bridges: Field dynamic testing, three-dimensional finite element modeling, and FE model calibration. The Owensboro Cable-stayed Bridge and the Tennessee River Bridges are presented herein as examples of how to interpret seismic data to ultimately assess whether or not a bridge requires seismic retrofitting, and furthermore, quantify seismic retrofitting when it is required.
