Resumen
Vibrating reed measurements of the Young's modulus and internal friction of orthorhombic TaS3 at its charge density wave transition (222K) are presented. The modulus has a large dip (≈2%) and the internal friction increases (ΔQ-1 ≈ 5 × 10-5) at the transition; the latter anomaly is sample dependent and is attributed to the motion of domains in the CDW state. Estimates of the specific heat and expansivity anomalies are made. The qualitative characteristics of the anomalies are compared to those previously observed at CDW transitions in other materials.
