Resumen

(Cell 184, 1693–1705.e1–e17; April 1, 2021) We failed to cite two relevant papers in the Discussion of our paper. Our study reports on the horizontal transfer of a plant gene to whiteflies, allowing these insects to neutralize common plant defense compounds. By demonstrating the function of the gene in whiteflies, we highlight the evolutionary implications for plant-insect interactions and show the potential of these findings for pest control by silencing the gene via genetically transformed tomato plants. We neglected, however, to cite the studies by Sharma et al., (2015) and Lapadula et al. (2020), which also provide bioinformatic and molecular evidence for gene transfer from plant to insect, mosquito and whitefly, respectively. Our article has been corrected online to include these references. We apologize for the omissions.
