Resumen
The evolution of the color centers in UV-irradiated syndiotactic polystyrene (sPS) at elevated temperatures is investigated using UV-Vis spectroscopy. The UV cut-off wavelength of the sPS is hypsochromic shift under the irradiation of ultraviolet light and bathochromic shift under the irradiation of gamma ray. The concentration of the color centers in the sPS increases with increasing the annealing time for the UV irradiation. A generation model of first order is proposed to analyze the evolution of the color centers in the UV-irradiated sPS during annealing. The activation energy for the evolution of the color centers increases with increasing the UV dose. The irradiation of UV light causes the decrease of the glass transition temperature of sPS.
