Resumen

Ventilation requirements for poultry and livestock operations can vary substantially, and there is a broad range in fan performance. Typical ventilation fans come in several standard sizes, and there is a need for a method to determine in-situ performance for this range in fan sizes. A device previously designed for in-situ fan airflow measurement of 92 and 120 cm (36 and 48 in) diameter ventilation fans, called the Fan Assessment Numeration System (FANS), was modeled in three-dimensions using computer aided design (CAD) software. This allowed for efficient scaling of size to support smaller and larger fans. With this improvement, three new size configurations were designed and fabricated. The new design incorporates a custom hardware and software interface to reduce dependence on obsolete commercial instrumentation and includes additional sensor inputs for measuring building static pressure, temperature, and humidity in real-time. This paper describes the enhanced design features of the new FANS, including both hardware and software. Results from the calibration of fourteen newly manufactured units, and ten upgraded units, are provided. 084723.
