Resumen

Fibular hemimelia is a congenital disorder, the exact cause of which is unknown. It is thought to result from a defect in the femoral-fibular-ulnar developmental field and, as such, many clinical problems may be associated. Classification systems help guide treatment, which may include amputation or limblengthening with reconstruction, depending on the type of deficiency or variants. This review discusses recent literature on the advances in our understanding of genetic control of limb development and the treatment considerations that will allow these patients to live more active lifestyles.
