Resumen

The regulation of prostate growth and survival is represented by a delicate balance between cell proliferation and apoptosis (programmed cell death). Loss of this growth equilibrium due to increased proliferation and/or reduced apoptosis ultimately results in aberrant, tumorigenic growth. In recent years there has been an explosion in our understanding of the mechanisms underlying this loss of regulatory control, and ongoing work promises to bring new preventive, diagnostic, and therapeutic insights for the management of prostate cancer.
