Resumen
The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) works to suppress the immune system by dismantling its defenses against many infections and cancers that would not typically threaten a healthy immune system (WHO, 2021). Due to the use and evolution of antiretroviral therapy (ART), HIV has transitioned to a chronic disease in which comorbidities such as heart failure occur. Such a shift in the progression of HIV has resulted in a change in its pathophysiology. With limited data surrounding HIV as a chronic disease, there exists significant gaps in how to properly evaluate and manage the health of people living with HIV (PLWH). This chapter discusses heart failure in PLWH in relation to risk factors, evaluation, management, prevention, and addressing disparities in care.
