Resumen
An 18.29 m (60 ft) pedestrian I-girder bridge is analyzed, designed, tested, and constructed. The main load carrying members for the bridge are two 60.96 cm (24 in) deep fiber glass reinforced plastic I-girders with embedded carbon fibers in the flanges. Laboratory testing quantified the increased stiffness of the hybrid carbon beams over those manufactured solely from fiberglass. Typical joint connections were also tested to investigate their performance. A vibrational analysis was accomplished to check the bridges response to pedestrian traffic. The bridge will be monitored to obtain both long term structural integrity and creep performance.
