Inoculation Strategy for the Promotion of Healthy and the Prevention of Risky Behaviors

This chapter reviews the application of inoculation theory in health contexts as a messaging framework for promoting healthy behaviors and preventing risky ones. The health context has experienced one of the most robust applications of inoculation theory, including applications in binge drinking, condom use, vaccinations, gambling, and smoking, among others. The chapter also discusses important future considerations for inoculation health research, such as social spreading/herd immunity, therapeutic inoculation, and vaccine type.
