Intersectional trans athlete media narratives: the role of digital media in (re)defining the stories of trans athletes

Producción científica: Chapterrevisión exhaustiva

Resumen

The chapter focuses on four athlete stories within two different types of digital news spaces (Emily Bridges within Outsports and Chelsea Wolfe within Bicycling.com) and two social media spaces (Chris Mosier on Instagram and Schuyler Bailar on TikTok) to advocate and seek to renegotiate public discussions and attitudes. The case studies reveal that these digital spaces are often used for advancing first-person voices and provide counterarguments to prevailing sentiments, particularly about the participation of male-to-female trans athletes within female athletics.
