The compilation of this bibliography has been a labor of love at the University of Louisville Libraries, as our former Dean Hannelore Rader brought it with her when she came to us in 1997 from Cleveland State University where she had been director since 1987. A visionary, ahead of her time, Dean Rader was present for the birth of the bibliographic instruction movement in the early 1970s as the first head of library orientation at Eastern Michigan University (EMU). At the urging of her director, she wrote and received a $50,000 grant from the Council on Library Resources and the National Endowment for the Humanities to begin a five-year Library Outreach and Orientation Program (McCain, 2006). In 1971, she was instrumental in EMU hosting the First Annual Conference on Library Orientation for Academic Libraries and then in 1972 starting LOEX, the Library Orientation Exchange, a pre-internet means of sharing library instructional materials that became known all over the world.
