N2 - This paper presents an incident wave decomposition method for measuring source impedance and source strength. This simplified method has the advantage of being purely based on acoustic instead of equivalent circuit concepts. It is suggested that the developed method is more intuitive than equivalent circuit methods like the two-load method. The incident wave decomposition method is validated theoretically and experimentally. Finally, the source impedance of an engine intake system is measured and used to predict the sound pressure outside the duct.
