Resumen
Underground coal mining continued to present unique challenges for the safe application of electric power distribution and utilization in the US. The transition from DC to alternating current (AC) enabled the use of different voltage levels for distribution and utilization of circuits. The Federal Coal Mine Health and Safety Act of 1969 created stringent regulations for all aspects of coal mining and significant authority to enforce these regulations was given through the newly created Mining Enforcement Safety Administration.
