Resumen
Natural killer (NK) cells are cytotoxic lymphocytes that function at the interface of innate and adaptive immunity. NK cells are essential for the defense against viral pathogens and are involved in tumor surveillance, atopic diseases, and many autoimmune/inflammatory disorders. In the following chapter, we provide an overview of NK cell development, activation, and NK cell effector function. We provide a comprehensive clinical overview of NK cell deficiencies including impairment of NK cell development and/or function. Overall, this chapter summarizes NK cell biology and function in both healthy and diseased conditions.
