Resumen

Membrane technology has been studied for removing CO2 from mixtures with light gases, e.g., CH4, N2, and H2, and optimal membranes with high CO2 permeability and high CO2/light gas selectivity are of great interest. Novel materials based on rubbery polymers (crosslinked poly(ethylene oxide)) which exhibit high CO2 solubility and CO2/light gas solubility selectivity are presented. They also exhibit high CO2 mixed gas permeability and CO2/light gas mixed gas selectivity. CO2 separation performance can be improved by introducing free methoxy chain ends or by adding nanoparticles to the polymer matrix, and decreasing temperature can lead to further enhancement of the separation properties. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the 230th ACS National Meeting (Washington, DC 8/28/2005-9/1/2005).
