Resumen

PDCD4 is a novel tumor suppressor. Its expression is frequently downregulated in many types of cancers, and it has been demonstrated to inhibit tumor promotion and progression. The biochemical function of PDCD4 is the inhibition of translation through binding to eIF4A helicase. In this review, we will focus on recent advances in understanding the mechanism of inhibiting translation and tumorigenesis by PDCD4, the regulation of PDCD4 expression and the potential application of PDCD4 as a target for cancer diagnostics and therapeutics.
