Resumen
This chapter introduces federal support – mainly NIH – because most agencies and foundations generally use NIH’s model of grant review and vetting to some extent. We start by discussing common myths about grantsmanship and how to “work the system.” That includes emphasis on finding ways to publish throughout the award period and beyond.

Financiación
Even after you are funded, the government can cancel your grant or contract award or reduce it. Cuts and cancellations are most common in DOD, occasional at NSF, but rare at NIH. Asking colleagues who have received support from your tar - get agency regarding the possibility of cuts might inf ence your budget request. It is always wise to have a fallback plan such as a foundation grant in event of a cut, or the need to scale back the budget to make your project more attractive.
