Resumen

Between 1994 and 1999, more than 800,000 leaf-feeding beetles, Galerucella pusilla and G. calmariensis (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) were released in Iowa for biological control of purple loosestrife, Lythrum salicaria. The objective of these releases was to establish natural enemies to suppress populations of L. salicaria. Both Galerucella species have successfully overwintered and are increasing in abundance in Iowa.
