Resumen
In this reply, it is shown that the solution suggested by Chadwick is a solution for a particularly simple set of conditions for indentation of thin films with a frictionless contact condition on both contact interfaces. A simple method is used to obtain the relation between the average indentation stress and the indentation displacement for indentation of compressible elastic thin films by a flat-ended cylindrical indenter. It turns out that the relation reduces to the previous result when the Poisson ratio is equal to 0.5.
