Resumen

Resistance to short fatigue crack growth across grain boundaries was identified to be due to twist and tilt of crack plane deflection across the boundaries in some Al-Li and Al-Cu alloys. It counted for the commonly observed anomalous behaviors of short fatigue crack growth across grain boundaries. It could be explained why a finer layered grain structure with a strong β fiber texture exhibited faster growth rate of a fatigue crack than that in a coarse fibril grain structure of the same alloy. The grain orientation also had a strong effect on crack initiation and early growth in these alloys.
